Orioles Bats Remain Asleep, Lose 1-6

Jaret Wright earns his 3rd loss in as many starts for the season.

 

Wright made his first start since going on the DL a couple weeks ago. Apparently his arm was sore before this game even started, and the Orioles knew about it, but he started the game anyway. Wright only lasted 3 innings and 60 pitches before he was pulled from the game in favor of Brian Burres. It looks like Wright may need to go back on the DL, which he should if he can’t pitch more than 60 pitches. He gave up 4 hits, 3 walks, and 3 runs in his 3 innings. He struck out one batter. The only bright spot for the day was Burres, who went 4 innings without giving up a hit or a run. He walked 3 batters and struck out 6. He has looked good lately. Jeremy Guthrie pitched the 8th and just couldn’t locate his pitches. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and a strikeout in his lone inning.

The offense was terrible throughout the game. They went up to the plate with no real approach, except to swing at ball out of the zone and weakly ground out. Melvin Mora went 2-3 with a walk and Aubrey Huff hit a homerun (his 3rd) in the 9th inning to save us from being shut out. Corey Patterson had a single and his 5th stolen base, while Jay Gibbons got his first hit in 22 at bats from a single in the 9th. Miguel Tejada also had a single.  We’re not going to win games if we don’t start hitting. When the pitchers are always pitching from behind, they feel like they have to be perfect and that makes them prone to walks and making mistakes. The offense needs to get their act together.
