Bats Break Out; O’s Win 8-4

Brian Bass earned the win in relief, his 4th.

Rich Hill looked good for three innings, before falling apart in the 4th. He lost his control again and only managed to get out of the 4th when Nick Markakis threw a runner out at the plate. Markakis now leads the AL with 7 outfield assists. Hill walked 3 and gave up 4 runs and 5 hits in his four innings. Brian Bass came in and kept the Orioles in the ballgame, tossing 3 scoreless innigns. Danys Baez and George Sherrill threw a scoreless inning each to close it out after the O’s scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th.

The game started off good for the offense. Brian Roberts singled and scored on Adam Jones’ 12th homerun of the season. Then we loaded the bases before Matt Wieters struck out to end the inning. The hitting shut down again for the next 5 innings before finally breaking out in the 7th. Luck starting going our way with 2 runs scoring on seeing eye singles, wild pitches, and errors. Then Roberts hit his 21st double with the bases loaded to give the O’s the lead back. Roberts ended up with 4 hits on the night. Melvin Mora hit his third single of the game to score another run and Adam Jones hit a sacrifice fly to get his 3rd RBI of the game and take over the team lead with 41. Nolan Riemold had 3 hits, including his 3rd double, and a walk. Luke Scott had 2 singles and 2 walks. Markakis had a pair of walks, Wieters had one himself, and Aubrey Huff had a single. This could be the game where we start to turn things around offensively. We can only hope.

Rubber game tomorrow afternoon. Brad Bergesen (3-2, 4.04) versus Derek Lowe (7-3, 3.44).
