Sleeping Giant Awakes; O’s Win 11-2

Brad Bergesen wins his 4th game of the year.

Looks like last nights 7th inning was the breakout we needed after all. The O’s came out of the gates on fire today. We scored 11 runs on 15 hits and scored in each of the first 5 innings. Ty Wiggington had two homeruns in the game to go along with a single and a walk, giving him 5 on the year. Patience at the plate was the key to the offensive force we showed today. We had 9 walks in the game. Brian Roberts had two and a single, Nolan Riemold had one and a single, Luke Scott had two and a single, Greg Zaun had one and a couple of singles, Felix Pie had one and a single, and Robert Andino had one, a single, and a two run double. Andino has looked good since Cesar Izturis went on the disabled list. He didn’t look too hot earlier in the year when Izturis missed some games, but recently hes showed off a nice glove at shortstop and has even had a few multi hit games. Hes making the Hayden Penn trade look better and better. I do have one complaint about today. Matt Wieters should have been in the lineup. Hes been hitting much better lately and has caught Bergesen in his last 3 starts, each being great.

But Bergesen made it look like a meaningless complaint. He tossed a complete game today, only giving up 2 runs (both on David Ross homeruns) on 5 hits and 2 walks. His ERA is now down to 3.79. Hes only given up 6 runs in his last 4 starts, spanning 32 innings. Hes really settling in as a Major Leaguer. Brad could be on his to claiming the staff ace title soon. Rick Kranitz credits the recent success to a new curve ball and also moving over to the first base side of the rubber. Apparently its causing his sinker to appear as a strike more, before darting out of the zone. It appears as though the first member of the “cavalry” has arrived.

The Orioles are off tomorrow before the Mets come to town for a 3 game series starting Tuesday. Mike Pelfrey (4-2, 4.68) starts for New York, Jeremy Guthrie (4-6, 5.52) for the home team.
