Orioles Shut Down By Red Sox, 4-0

Jason Berken goes to 1-5 on the season.

Not much to say about this one. Jon Lester was dominant for the Sox and then their bullpen finished the job. We managed to collect 6 hits, all singles. Nick Markakis had one, Nolan Riemold had one, Matt Wieters had one, Robert Andino had one, and Ty Wiggington had two. I think this was just a case of running into a really good pitcher when he was on top of his game.

Berken was in trouble most of the time he was in the game, but he did alright escaping some jams. He gave up 8 hits, 2 walks, and hit 2 batters,  totaling all 4 runs the Red Sox scored, in 5 innings. He struck out 3 batters. Brian Bass came in and shut out the Sox for 3 innings. Berken might be the odd man out of the rotation when Koji Uehara comes back from the disabled list. I could see him going to the bullpen, but they might send him back down so he can keep starting. Chris Ray pitched a scoreless 9th.

Player of the game: Brian Bass (3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB (3.75 ERA))

The O’s look for some better luck tonight with Rich Hill (3-2, 6.03) on the mound against John Smoltz (0-1, 9.00) for Boston.
