O’s Take Game 2 In Angels Series; 6-4

David Hernandez gets his 2nd win, George Sherrill his 18th save.

The O’s got on the board right away, scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Adam Jones was hit by a pitch, Nick Markakis reached on an error, Aubrey Huff singled to load the bases, and Luke Scott doubled to score the 2 runs. We scored some more in the 3rd inning when Jones singled, Markakis doubled, and Huff hit a 3 run homer to increase the lead to 5-0. It was 6-0 after the Orioles half of the 4th inning when Markakis singled in Brian Roberts who had singled himself. That was it for the scoring, but Melvin Mora had a pair of hits including a double and Matt Wieters had a single and a walk.

Hernandez pitched good again, although he isn’t striking out as many batters as I thought he would. I’m not too worried, I’ll take success no matter how it gets there, but thats his bread and butter. I’m sure it’ll work itself out over time. Anyway, David gave up 3 runs over 6 and 2/3rds innings. He was lifted with 2 outs in the 7th after he walked a batter. He had 2 strikeouts compared to 6 hits and 2 walks. Jim Johnson finished off the 7th and completed the 8th, but he gave up a run making it a 2 run Oriole lead. Luckily Sherrill was able to come in and get the job done this time, pitching a scoreless 9th.

Player of the game: Aubrey Huff (2-4, R, 3 RBI, BB, HR (11) (.273 AVG))

The O’s can guarantee at least a series split with Jason Berken (1-5, 6.44) on the mound tonight. Sean O’Sullivan (2-0, 3.00) pitches for the Angels.
