Bats Quiet Again In 3-1 Loss

Brad Bergesen loses his 5th game of the season.

Bergesen gave us another quality start, but he would have had to pitch a shutout to get a win last night. Bergesen got hit around a little bit, but was able to keep the Red Sox to 3 runs over 6 innings. He gave up 9 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. He got some help from Nick Markakis when he threw out a runner at the plate. Matt Albers and Danys Baez followed Bergesen by each pitching a scoreless inning.

The scoring consisted of a Melvin Mora sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning. Nolan Reimold scored after leading off the inning with a single, stealing 2nd base, and going to third on a throwing error on his steal attempt. Reimold had a great game getting on base in every at bat he had last night. There were some other scoring chances in the game, but the hits just weren’t coming in the clutch situations. Nick Markakis had a pair of singles and Adam Jones and Matt Wieters each had a single.

Player of the game: Nolan Reimold (3-3, R, BB, double (8) (.271 AVG))

Tonight the Orioles face Jon Lester (8-7, 3.87), who owns the birds. We’ll send Jeremy Guthrie (7-8, 5.12) out there on our end.
