Losing Streak Continues In 7-2 Loss

Jeremy Guthrie falls to 7-9 on the season.

Guthrie continued doing what hes done all year. He was hit hard and gave up a homerun, but was able to last 6.2 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts. His performance this year reminds me of Sidney Ponson’s last few seasons with the Orioles. Mark Hendrickson came in and got out of the 7th inning, but gave up a 2 run homer in the 8th before getting pulled. Cla Meredith came in and finished off the 8th without allowing any more damage.

Our only two runs came in the top of the 4th on back to back RBI singles by Matt Wieters and Cesar Izturis. Wieters would add another single to his resume later in the game. Brian Roberts hit his 33rd and 34th doubles of the season, but we were unable to drive him in as Nick Markakis went 1-5, Adam Jones went 0-5, and Aubrey Huff went 0-4. Nolan Reimold had a single, double, and a walk and Ty Wiggington added a single and a walk. Melvin Mora also singled. We had way too many men on base to only score two runs. We’re really playing some uninspired baseball right now. Hopefully, with the announcement of Chris Tillman coming up to pitch Wednesday we can get a spark.

Player of the game: Nolan Reimold (2-3, R, BB, double (9) (.277 AVG))

The Orioles try to avoid another sweep today with rookie David Hernandez (2-2, 3.55) pitching against veteran John Smoltz (1-3, 6.31).
