Hill, Orioles Lose 5-3

Matt Albers is now 1-4 pitching out of the bullpen after picking up the loss last night.

It is safe to say Rich Hill will be the odd man out come Wednesday to make room for Chris Tillman. He couldn’t make it out of the 3rd inning last night, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. If that wasn’t enough, Hill said after the game that hes been pitching with tendinitis all season. Thanks for letting us know Rich. Although that could explain his troubles, plus it makes it easier to just put him on the DL so we don’t have to risk losing him on waivers. I would say we won’t see Rich Hill again in 2009. Brian Bass came in and pitched admirably. He didn’t allow a run in 3.1 innings. Matt Albers came in to finish off the 6th, then gave up a run in the 7th. Danys Baez continued to diminish his trade value by giving up a run on 3 hits in the 8th, although the run was unearned. Cla Meredith hasn’t given up a run as an Oriole (knock on wood) and that continued last night as he threw a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Adam Jones got things started in the 1st with his 15th homerun. It was an impressive shot to right center field. Jones is at his best when hes hitting with power to the opposite field. He also brought in the Oriole’s 2nd run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Way to take one for the team. Matt Wieters knocked in the only other run with a single that scored Aubrey Huff, but Nolan Reimold was thrown out at home. He had no business even trying to score on the play, but thats on third base coach Juan Samuel. He needs to go at the end of the year. Or at least moved to the first base side. Hes been getting us in trouble on the bases all year. Cesar Izturis, Aubrey Huff, and Nolan Reimold each had two singles in the game. Reimold also added a walk.

Player of the game: Adam Jones (1-3, R, 2 RBI, HBP, HR (15) (.298 AVG))

Its Jason Berken’s (1-8, 6.55) turn tonight, but he should have less pressure now with last night’s developments. He’ll be opposed by Brian Bannister (6-7, 3.76).
