O’s Lose Again, This Time In Extras 4-3

Danys Baez lost his 4th game to even his record.

It wasn’t looking good for Jason Berken after the first inning. I thought we might have to replace both him and Rich Hill after he gave up a two run homer so early in the game. But luckily for him and the Orioles he was able to settle down after that. He ended up going 6 innings, only giving up those 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 3 batters. That should give him a chance to stay in the rotation until at least September I would think. Mark Hendrickson pitched a perfect 7th, but Jim Johnson continued his struggles giving up a solo homerun that tied the game at 3. George Sherrill hopefully impressed the scouts with his clean inning to send into extra innings. Baez got through the 10th, but a swinging bunt single, a stolen base, and another single later and he had given up the lead. It was some pretty tough luck, he was throwing the ball pretty good.

Again, the hitting was probably the reason we lost. Thats the last thing we expected to be repeating most of the season long. We quickly got out to a 2-0 lead after Brian Roberts singled and Adam Jones hit a homerun for the 2nd night in a row, his 16th on the season. We took a brief 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 6th on a Matt Wieters RBI single. It was one of his four hits in the game, the first time hes had that many in his career. Nolan Reimold had 2 singles and a walk in the game, his 5th multi-hit game in a row. Cesar Izturis added a couple of singles and Roberts hit his 35th double, which leads the league. But the offense just seems to shut down as the game goes into the later innings.

Player of the game: Matt Wieters (4-5, RBI (.273 AVG))

Tonight is the game we’ve been waiting for. Chris Tillman (0-0, -.–) will make his major league debut, as long as the weather holds out, against Cy Young candidate Zack Greinke (10-6, 2.04).
