Bats Shut Down In 5-1 Loss

W – Scott Feldman (15-4, 3.62) L – Chris Tillman (1-3, 4.66) SV – Neftali Feliz (2)

Aside from a bad 4th inning, Tillman pitched pretty well again. He ended up going 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. He gave up 3 runs in the 4th and if it wasn’t for a bobbled grounder by Michael Aubrey that cost us a double play, the inning might have went differently. Tillman is running out of gas as the season goes on into its closing stages. Hes admitted to as much as being exhausted. He’ll probably only get another start or two before being shut down. Same goes for Brian Matusz. Its a good idea, no sense putting them in a position to hurt themselves. Their innings should be built up enough for them to make it all the way next year. The bullpen did well tonight. Alberto Castillo gave up a hit to the first batter he faced, but got the next to ground out before being sent to the bench. Cla Meredith finished the inning. Matt Albers pitched two perfect innings, striking out two batters.

The Oriole’s lone run came in the bottom of the 6th inning on a Brian Roberts RBI single after Cesar Izturis and Felix Pie worked back to back walks. Roberts was also hit by a pitch in the game. It was a sorry effort by the offense, only able to get 4 hits – all singles. Roberts of course had one, as did Nolan Reimold, Matt Wieters, and Melvin Mora. That was it. Not very inspiring play by a team that should want to finish strong to try and save their manager’s job. Its looking like we could lose 100 games, unless we go 9-19 or better to finish the season.

Player of the game: Matt Albers (2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K (5.43 ERA))

The game tomorrow was moved from 7:05 to 4:05. Brian Matusz (3-2, 5.28) will try to build on his last start against Kevin Millwood (10-8, 3.61).
