O’s Win 2 In A Row Against Yanks, 7-3

W – Brian Matusz (5-2, 4.63) L – AJ Burnett (11-9, 4.33)

Matusz has been great in his last 4 starts now, going 7 innings in his last 3. He went 7 innings yesterday and only allowed 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 3 batters. Its pretty impressive to shut down the hot Yankees at the bandbox that is new Yankee Stadium in only your 8th major league start. They keep saying they’re going to shut down Matusz after another start or two, but hes pitching like he wants none of that. Spring Training is going to be fun to watch as Matusz, Brad Bergesen, Jeremy Guthrie, and maybe a free agent starter battle it out for the opening day nod. Back to the game, Danys Baez pitched a perfect 8th with a strike out. Jim Johnson pitched the 9th and struggled, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, but was able to end the game with the birds in the win column.

It was really over after the 2nd inning when the Orioles scored 6 runs and never looked back. Nolan Reimold led off the inning with his 15th homerun. Matt Wieters walked, Ty Wiggington singled, and Michael Aubrey singled to load the bases. Robert Andino singled to score Wieters, then Brian Roberts hit a grand slam to bust the game wide open. We tacked on another run in the 9th on a Jeff Fiorentino sacrifice fly after Wiggington singled and Andino doubled. Roberts also had a single, double, and a walk in the game. Reimold added a single and a walk to his resume.

Player of the game: Brian Roberts (3-4, R, 4 RBI, SB (29), double (51), HR (15) (.286 AVG))

The Orioles will try to sweep the Yankees today with Jeremy Guthrie (10-13, 4.96) on the mound. Cy Young candidate CC Sabathia (16-7, 3.40) pitches for New York.
