O’s Win Rain Soaked Game 10-4

W – Chris Tillman (2-3, 4.91) L – Damaso Marte (1-2, 11.32) SV – Mark Hendrickson (1)

Chris Tillman struggled in the first inning, but once he got through that he was pretty effective. He pitched into the 6th, but was removed after he allowed a single and hit a batter to open the inning. Tillman gave up 4 runs (3 in the 1st inning) on 9 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 8 batters, a career high. Alberto Castillo came in and struck out the only batter he faced, then Matt Albers finished the inning. Mark Hendrickson came in to start the 7th. He earned his first save of the season by pitching 3 scoreless innings to end the game.

The Orioles scored a run in the 2nd inning on back to back doubles by Melvin Mora and Luke Scott, but we did most of our damage in the middle innings. In the 5th, Felix Pie led off with a walk, moved to 3rd on a single by Chad Moeller, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Roberts. Cesar Izturis walked and Nick Markakis singled to load the bases. Mora was hit by a pitch to score another run. The 6th was more of the same. Matt Wieters led off with a single, Jeff Fiorentino followed with a single of his own, and Moeller walked. Roberts singled in 2 runs and Izturis singled in another. A Nolan Reimold sacrifice fly gave us another. A 2 out rally in the 7th gave us our final 3 runs of the game. Moeller doubled, Roberts walked, and Izturis singled – scoring Moeller. A wild pitch moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd and Markakis took advantage. He singled and both runners scored.

Player of the game: Chad Moeller (2-4, 2 R, BB, double (8) (.276 AVG))

Brian Matusz (4-2, 5.26) tries to continue his recent success against AJ Burnett (11-8, 4.19) this afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
