More Of The Same, O’s Lose In Extras 6-5

W – Shawn Camp (2-6, 3.23) L – Dennis Sarfate (0-1, 6.50)

Well the Orioles had a 5-2 lead heading into the 8th inning, but that obviously didn’t hold up. Mark Hendrickson did a great job in getting us to that point. In just his 2nd start after returning to the rotation, he stretched out to 6 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. Matt Albers bridged the gap to the 8th by throwing a scoreless inning, striking out the side at that. Danys Baez pitched the 8th and after he hit Aaron Hill and gave up a homerun to Edwin Encarnacion it was a 5-4 ballgame. It would remain that heading into the 9th with Jim Johnson coming on to pitch. He struck out the side.. but not before allowing the tying run to score. Back to back to back singles loaded the bases, then he hit Jose Bautista with a pitch to tie the game. Chris Ray and Alberto Castillo combined to squeak through the 10th without allowing a run, but Dennis Sarfate wasn’t so lucky in the 11th. A leadoff walk came around to score on Hill’s double.

The O’s put two on the board in the 3rd to take an early 2-0 lead. Michael Aubrey doubled, moved to third on a Cesar Izturis single, and scored on a Brian Roberts single. Felix Pie then hit a sacrifice fly to score Izturis. We took the lead in the 6th. Pie led off with a single and scored on Matt Wieters’ double. Wieters scored on a Ty Wiggington single. In the 7th Aubrey led off with another double and scored on Roberts 55th double, which tied him with Lance Berkman for the most doubles in a season for a switch hitter. The overall record is 60 by Tris Speaker. Melvin Mora doubled in the game. Wieters had a second double, along with a single. Roberts, Wiggington, and Lou Montanez tacked on singles.

Player of the game: Matt Wieters (3-5, R, RBI, 2 doubles (14) (.287 AVG))

The O’s will march back out there tonight and try to break that losing streak. Jeremy Guthrie (10-15, 5.05) goes up against Scott Richmond (6-10, 5.31).
