Final Roster Moves

The Orioles have purchased the contract of LHP Will Ohman and added him to the 40 man roster. RHP Koji Uehara has been placed on the 15 day disabled list, RHP Kam Mickolio has been optioned to AAA Norfolk, and SS Robert Andino has been designated for assignment. The O’s also released 3B/1B Mike Costanzo.

Ohman was a lock to make the bullpen after his very successful spring training performance. He’ll be the lefty specialist. Uehara is hurt yet again, this time with a hamstring strain. Hopefully he can get healthy soon, he could be very effective out of the bullpen. I was hoping Mickolio would make the bullpen but he strained his groin late in camp and walked too many batters this spring. It also didn’t hurt that Matt Albers was out of options. Andino will play shortstop at AAA Norfolk if he clears waivers. I wouldn’t be sad if someone took him off our hands though, he seems to have a bad attitude. Costanzo was one of the five players the Orioles received from the Houston Astros in the Miguel Tejada trade. (Luke Scott, Dennis Sarfate, Troy Patton, and Matt Albers were the others) He hadn’t hit a lick since the O’s acquired him.

It looks like the opening day roster is set and I’ll be back tomorrow to write up my season preview.
