Roberts To DL; Turner Up

The Orioles have placed 2B Brian Roberts on the 15 day disabled list and recalled INF Justin Turner from AAA Norfolk.

The hits just keep on coming. After starting the season 1-5 and losing three games in heart breaking fashion it looks like the Orioles are going to be without their lead off hitter and star second baseman for a while. Its been a very rough start to the season for the scrappy veteran. He came into camp with a herniated disk in his back and could only get 19 at bats at the end of spring training. He started off the regular season slowly, going hitless in the first two games, before starting to turn it on. He had a multi-hit game in game three including a walk and a stolen base then followed it up with a walk and a stolen base the next day in the home opener. Unfortunately he strained his oblique during that last stolen base and who knows how long he’ll be out. These things tend to linger and I don’t suspect that we’ll see him before May. Justin Turner will take his place on the roster. He can play second and third base and hit .300/.362/.388 in 387 at bats last year for AAA Norfolk. He started this year off 2-8 with two walks in two games with the Tide. Julio Lugo will most likely replace Roberts as the everyday second baseman but Turner should get some games under his belt. He adds a healthy body to the bench that can play all over the infield.
