Koji Makes His Return

The Orioles have activated RHP Koji Uehara from the 15 day disabled list and optioned LHP Alberto Castillo to AAA Norfolk.

Castillo is the roster casualty due to the fact that he has an option left and the Orioles already have two left handed pitchers in the bullpen with Will Ohman and Mark Hendrickson. Castillo appeared in 6 games covering 5 innings with one walk and 7 strikeouts. He had a 5.40 ERA. Koji should immediately help the bullpen. Hes shown that when hes healthy he is a very capable pitcher. He was the Orioles best starting pitcher last year when he was healthy and he should only get better in a relief role. He has pin point accuracy with his fastball and splitter and knows how to pitch. He could become the closer fairly soon but I expect them to ease him into that role. Uehara pitched four scoreless innings during his rehab assignment, two for AA Bowie and two for AAA Norfolk. His two appearances for Norfolk came on back to back games so he should be good to go. Although we shouldn’t put all of our eggs in the Koji basket because as injury prone as he is hes liable to twist his ankle running out to the bullpen tomorrow.
