Orioles Comeback Then Lose On Walkoff 7-5

W – Blake Wood (1-2)     L – Alfredo Simon (2-2)

Jake Arrieta had a rough first inning, giving up three runs, but was able to settle down after that and keep the Royals scoreless for the next 3.1 innings. He struck out 4 batters but walked 5 and gave up 6 hits. Arrieta needs to get his walks down if he wants to be consistently successful in the majors. Jason Berken finished the 5th inning and pitched the 6th as well, giving up one run. Will Ohman pitched a scoreless 7th while Mike Gonzalez and Koji Uehara combined to pitch a scoreless 8th. Going into the 9th the O’s had a 5-4 lead but Alfredo Simon gave up a three run homer to Alex Gordon to give Kansas City a walk off victory. Offensively the top of the lineup did all of the damage. Brian Roberts had a pair of singles. Nick Markakis hit two singles and also had a walk while scoring three runs. Ty Wiggington singled and doubled twice, driving in two runs. Luke Scott had a single and a sacrifice fly. The only other hit was a Cesar Izturis single and Felix Pie hit a sacrifice fly. Adam Jones walked, was hit by a pitch, and stole a base. Brutal loss after the team fought back to take the lead in the 8th inning.

Player of the game: Ty Wiggington – 3-4, R, 2 RBI, 2 doubles (19) (.256 AVG)

The third game of the series is played tonight after the non waiver trade deadline passes. Brad Bergesen (3-9, 6.95) goes against Zack Greinke (6-10, 4.01).
