Hernandez To DL

The Orioles have placed RHP David Hernandez on the 15 day disabled list and purchased the contract of RHP Armando Gabino from AAA Norfolk.

Hernandez hurt himself trying to cover home plate on a wild pitch last night. It appears to be a high ankle sprain. He said he expects to be activated on the first day he is eligible to come off the DL. Nothing major but the Orioles will take the cautious route and let him heal. Hernandez has been great since moving to the bullpen aside from some recent struggles in his last two outings so I’m sure the O’s would like to get him back as soon as possible. Gabino comes up after pitching very well at AAA Norfolk both as a starter and reliever. He was 7-0 with a 2.12 ERA over 76.1 innings with 68 strikeouts and 20 walks. It’ll be interesting to see how he does. I think he could be a sleeper that has a chance of being in the bullpen next year. He’ll be competing with Matt Albers in a way while hes up here. He was added to the 40 man roster which we had an extra spot on with the trades of Miguel Tejada and Will Ohman.
