Another Walk Off Ends Series 3-2

W – Matt Albers (4-3)     L – JJ Putz (5-3)

Alfredo Simon is losing his grip on the closers role. I could see Koji Uehara or Mike Gonzalez taking over for him in the near future. The Orioles entered the 9th inning last night with a 2-1 lead and Simon came in to get the save. Brian Matusz had another quality start, pitching 6 strong innings only allowing one run on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. He wasn’t quite as sharp as his last time out but it looks like hes turning a corner. Koji Uehara pitched perfect 7th and 8th innings and made it look easy. Thats when Simon came in and gave up a game tying solo homerun to Paul Konerko on the first pitch he threw. He walked the next batter and got an out on a sacrifice bunt before coming out of the game. Mike Gonzalez cleaned up his mess and got out of the inning. Gonzalez got the first out of the 10th inning before Matt Albers came in and got the other two. Brian Roberts was the hero hitting a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 10th. Our first two runs came in the bottom of the 6th. Ty Wiggington hit a solo homerun, his 18th, and Matt Wieters hit an RBI groundout. Luke Scott and Felix Pie each had two singles and Adam Jones had a single and a walk. We’re now 6-1 in the Showalter era.

Player of the game: Brian Roberts – 1-4, BB, GW HR (1) (.254 AVG)

Tonight starts our first road trip with Buck Showalter at the helm. Jake Arrieta (3-3, 5.07) starts game one against the Cleveland Indians and Justin Masterson (4-10, 5.40).
