O’s Win A Slugfest 14-8

W – Jake Arrieta (4-3)     L – Justin Masterson (4-11)

The Orioles busted out the bats last night. Matt Wieters singled and hit a two run homer, Felix Pie and Luke Scott each doubled and hit three run homers, and Corey Patterson tripled and hit a solo homerun. Cesar Izturis also had two RBIs on two singles. Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, and Ty Wiggington chipped in singles as well. Every single starter reached base (Adam Jones was the only one without a hit but he walked and had an RBI) and we were 7-10 with runners in scoring position. What a welcome change from the first four months of the season. Jake Arrieta wasn’t on his best form but he stayed in the game long enough to get the win and ended his outing with two consecutive one, two, three innings. Overall he gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts. Mark Hendrickson pitched two key scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th to allow the O’s to enter the 9th with an eight run lead. Armando Gabino made his Oriole debut in the 9th and gave up a two run homer before ending the game. He didn’t look too sharp but he hadn’t pitched in a while and had to be nervous since hes only had a handful of big league innings under his belt.

Player of the game: Luke Scott – 2-5, 2 R, 4 RBI, double (23), HR (21) (.293 AVG)

The Orioles will look to end Josh Tomlin’s (1-1, 2.79) impressive streak to start his major league career tonight, sending Brad Bergesen (3-9, 6.26) to the mound.
