O’s Continue To Slide In 6-5 Loss

W – David Pauley (2-4)     L – Jeremy Guthrie (7-12)     SV – David Aardsma (24)

After winning eight of the first nine games after Buck Showalter was hired the Orioles have now lost five out of their last seven games. They won the first three series under Buck, but have now lost two in a row. Despite this I still think we’re playing better baseball than we were before Showalter showed up. Jeremy Guthrie gave us 8 innings last night, unfortunately he gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts. Three of those runs came on a three run homer in the top of the 2nd inning immediately after the Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Alfredo Simon pitched a scoreless 9th inning to keep us within a run but we couldn’t pull it off. We showed alot of heart as we kept trying to pull off the comeback but it just didn’t happen last night. Luke Scott hit a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 1st to get us out of the gate strong. After going down 5-2, Matt Wieters hit a two run homer to cut it back down to one. Both teams scored in the 8th, the Orioles doing so on a wild pitch that resulted in a walk for Adam Jones and Scott coming home from third after he doubled and moved over. Brian Roberts doubled, walked, and stole a baseas he continues to get back to full strength.

Player of the game: Luke Scott – 2-3, R, 2 RBI, BB, double (25) (.296 AVG)

The Rangers come into town starting tonight and the Orioles hope to give them another four game sweep like they did in Texas right before the all-star break. Brian Matusz (4-12, 5.28) and Colby Lewis (9-9, 3.28) pitch in game one.
