LA Series Opens With 3-1 Win

W – Brad Bergesen (6-9)     L – Trevor Bell (1-4)     SV – Koji Uehara (1)

Brad Bergesen continued his recent stretch of good pitching, looking like the pre-injury pitcher from 2009. Over his last six starts since July 31st hes lowered his ERA from 6.95 to 5.55 after last night. He pitched 8 innings of one run ball on four hits with four strikeouts with the only run coming in on a balk. Koji Uehara notched his third save of the season with a scoreless 9th. Buck Showalter refuses to name him the closer but it sure seems like he is to me. The Orioles got on the board right away in the top of the 1st inning when Brian Roberts doubled, stole third base, and scored on a Nick Markakis RBI single. Unfortunately Roberts had to leave the game later due to a sore hip and is supposed to miss a couple of days because of it. Josh Bell took his place in the lineup and singled in his only two at bats. We took the lead in the 6th on Luke Scott’s RBI single and added an insurance run in the 8th on Corey Patterson’s RBI ground out. Matt Wieters doubled and singled in the game and Cesar Izturis added a single of his own. Our pattern of alternating between wins and losses continued last night, hopefully we can end it in a good way tonight.

Player of the game: Brad Bergesen – 8 IP, 4 H, ER, 4 K, W (6-9) (5.55 ERA)

Kevin Millwood (2-14, 5.63) will take the ball to start the game tonight against lefty Scott Kazmir (8-11, 6.33) in game two of the series.
