5-2 Win Makes It Four In A Row For Birds

– Brian Matusz continued his recent stretch of success with 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 K to get his seventh win of the season. He didn’t have his best stuff but he was able to find a way to have a good outing.
– Jim Johnson got his first test since coming off the disabled list coming into a one run game with a runner on first and no outs. He was able to get out of it with impressive sink of his fastball.
– Mike Gonzalez got the first out of the 8th inning and then Koji Uehara recorded a five out save to guarantee the victory. Koji only needed 21 pitches to retire all five batters he faced.
– Nick Markakis hit his 40th double of the season making it four straight seasons with 40+ doubles. Hes only the fourth outfielder in major league history to accomplish that feat, the other three are in the hall of fame.
– Luke Scott and Felix Pie both hit solo homeruns in the 8th inning to give the O’s some breathing room and a three run lead. Scott also walked and had an RBI single in the game.
– Brian Roberts had a pair of hits and scored a run while Ty Wiggington, Adam Jones, and Matt Wieters each singled.
– The Orioles increased to 8-1 in series openers under Buck Showalter.
