Bullpen Blows Early Lead 9-6

W – Jon Lester (15-8)     L – Mark Hendrickson (1-5)     SV – Jonathan Papelbon (34)

– Jake Arrieta had the first outing of his career without issuing a walk but still had to be pulled from the game after 5 innings and 95 pitches. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts.
– Arrieta came away with a no decision despite leaving the game with the lead thanks to the bullpen. Mark Hendrickson gave up three runs in the top of the 7th inning and so did Alfredo Simon on a homerun from Adrian Beltre.
– Matt Albers pitched a scoreless 9th inning but the offense got sent down in order in the bottom of the 9th.
– The O’s scored four runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. Adam Jones doubled with the bases loaded to plate two runs, Ty Wiggington scored on a wild pitch, and then Felix Pie doubled in Jones.
– Jones aggravated his upper back injury on a swing in the game and had to be pinch hit for in the 7th inning. He might miss a couple of days.
– Nolan Reimold made his return and had a single and a sacrifice fly in the game. It was his first action since being demoted in early May.
– Pie had another double later in the game and scored a run. Ty Wiggington and Julio Lugo each singled twice while Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters singled once each.

The series ends tonight with Brad Bergesen (6-9, 5.55) looking to keep rolling. Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-4, 4.19) takes the mound for the Red Sox.
