O’s Kick Off New York Series With 4-3 Win

W – Brian Matusz (8-12)     L – AJ Burnett (10-13)     SV – Koji Uehara (7)

– Brian Matusz gave us a quality start allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts over 6 innings. Thats pretty good when you’re facing that Yankees lineup. Matusz is lining himself up for a break out season next year.
– The bullpen had a great night. Matt Albers pitched a scoreless 7th, Jim Johnson a scoreless 8th, and Koji Uehara notched a perfect 9th inning with two strikeouts to record his 7th save.
– Brian Roberts had a big day with three singles, two of them bringing in a run.
– Nick Markakis continued his steady climb out of his slump with a single and a walk in four plate appearances.
– Josh Bell had a single and a double and Cesar Izturis turned in a double of his own.
– The only other hits were singles from Felix Pie and Corey Patterson but Luke Scott and Matt Wieters each walked twice.
– This win made three in a row to bounce back from that three game losing streak. This team is just different (better) under Buck Showalter.

Player of the game: Brian Roberts – 3-5, 2 RBI (.280 AVG)

CC Sabathia (19-5, 3.02) tries to become the first pitcher in MLB to win 20 games tonight but Jake Arrieta (4-6, 5.11) will try to spoil that party in game two of the series in New York.
