Another Win In New York 6-2

W – Jake Arrieta (5-6)     L – CC Sabathia (19-6)

– The Orioles spoiled CC Sabathia’s attempt at winning his 20th game. In fact they gave him his first loss at Yankee stadium in 22 starts.
– The Orioles jumped on Sabathia for three runs in the 1st inning. The first five batters of the game reached base. Brian Roberts singled, Felix Pie walked, and Nick Markakis singled to load the bases. Ty Wiggington singled in a run and then Adam Jones singled in two more.
– Nolan Reimold blasted a two run homer into the upper deck in the 3rd inning to increase the Orioles lead to 5-1. Wiggington scored on the play after hitting his 26th double of the season. The homerun was Reimold’s first since being recalled from AAA Norfolk.
– The O’s added an insurance run in the 7th when Markakis singled in Josh Bell who reached on an error and moved to third on a Roberts single.
– Jake Arrieta had a good outing, facing the Yankees for the first time since his major league debut. He got into the 7th inning last night, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts.
– Arrieta got one out in the 7th but left with runners on first and third. Matt Albers came in and was able to get out of the jam without allowing a run to score. He also went on to pitch a scoreless 8th inning.
– Mark Hendrickson pitched a perfect 9th inning with a strikeout. Hes been effective lately aside from one bad outing.

Player of the game: Ty Wiggington – 2-4, R, RBI, double (26) (.252 AVG)

The series ends this afternoon when Brad Bergesen (6-10, 5.47) tries to give the Orioles their first sweep of the Yankees in New York since 1986. Rookie Ivan Nova (1-0, 2.89) pitches for the Yanks.
