Bergesen Down, Jakubauskas Up

The Orioles have optioned RHP Brad Bergesen to AAA Norfolk and recalled RHP Chris Jakubauskas from the same team.

Jakubauskas is needed after the bullpen was taxed in the Tigers series and with question marks surrounding Jeremy Guthrie on whether he’ll start on Sunday or Tuesday in New York. The bullpen got a break with the rain out on Friday but with the double header its most likely to be taxed again by the end of the day. Bergesen is the odd man out because he had an option left, wasn’t effective in his only appearance, and can get stretched out at AAA Norfolk. After he was lined in the forearm in spring training he wasn’t able to get many innings in. He’ll start for Norfolk on Monday and I’m sure he’ll be back after a couple starts down there. Jakubauskas is just filler and won’t last long up here. Hopefully he does well in his brief time to make a good impression. For his career he has a 6-8 record with a 5.48 ERA over 93.2 innings with 47 strikeouts and 27 walks. He missed most of last year after being hit in the head with a line drive up the middle.
