Game 1: Orioles 5, Rangers 0

W – Zach Britton (2-0)     L – Colby Lewis (1-1)

– Britton was sensational in his second career start, first at home. He didn’t rack up the strikeouts but he shutout the red hot Rangers offense over 7.2 innings. He had his sinker working, getting 13 groundouts to only 3 flyouts. It was really something to watch, very impressive. This guy looks like an ace as a rookie. Obviously he’ll have his low points but Oriole fans can’t be anything but excited about the prospect of him pitching in our rotation for the next 5 or 6 years.
– Jason Berken also continues to be impressive. He came in with two outs in the 8th and runners on the corners but was able to get out of the jam without allowing a run to score. He also pitched a scoreless 9th. His slider, fastball, changeup combination will be very successful.
– The offense jumped out to an early lead which had to help Britton’s confidence. Nick Markakis hit a solo homerun in the 1st inning and Mark Reynolds followed that up with his first Oriole homerun in the 2nd, a three run shot that went 422 feet. Adam Jones capped the scoring in the 3rd with an RBI single to score Vladimir Guerrero who had singled.
– Luke Scott reached base every time he came to the plate. He singled, walked twice, and was hit by a pitch. Derrek Lee and Reynolds also had singles in the game.
– It was good news for Brian Roberts despite going 0-4 at the plate. He had to go to the hospital the night before to get tests on some stomach pains but everything came back negative and he was cleared to play.

Player of the game: Zach Britton – 7.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, W (2-0) (0.66 ERA)

Game two featured Jake Arrieta vs. Matt Harrison, the results were not similar..
