O’s Break Through With 11-0 Win

W – Jake Arrieta (2-1)     L – Carl Pavano (1-2)

– The Orioles finally busted out the bats with 11 runs on 13 hits. Not everybody got in on the action but this should take some of the pressure off the group as a whole. Brian Roberts had three RBI on a single and a double. Matt Wieters drove in four on a single and a double. He was also hit by a pitch. Vladimir Guerrero hit a three run homer in the 8th and also singled.
– Robert Andino hit three singles and also walked. Adam Jones singled twice and walked. Derrek Lee had a pair of singles. Nick Markakis and Mark Reynolds walked. The Orioles need to continue this momentum for the rest of the home stand. That doesn’t mean scoring 11 runs but at least doing enough to take the pressure off the pitchers.
– Jake Arrieta came through with a very good performance. The Twins without Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau aren’t exactly murderer’s row but he shut them out over 6 innings on 4 hits and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts. I’m really impressed with Arrieta so far this season. He had one very bad game on a night when he had good stuff but other than that hes been pretty consistent. It’ll be pretty exciting when Brian Matusz comes off the DL to watch this rotation grow and develop.
– Jason Berken continued his great start by throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. He allowed two hits and a walk. Josh Rupe threw a scoreless 9th in the garbage inning.

Player of the game: Matt Wieters – 2-3, 3 R, 4 RBI, HBP, double (3) (.239 AVG)

Zach Britton (2-1, 2.75) looks to keep the ball rolling in the right direction tomorrow night against Nick Blackburn (1-2, 3.06), who is off to a good start but is definitely hittable.
