Yanks Blow Out O’s 15-3

W – CC Sabathia (1-1)     L – Brad Bergesen (1-2)

– The Orioles were never in this one. Bergesen gave up three runs in the 1st inning and with Sabathia pitching that was pretty much it. But the Yankees didn’t stop there. Bergesen did well to throw four scoreless innings after that but gave up a three run homer in the 6th. He completed the inning but ended up giving up 6 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts. New York’s offense is dangerous and they showed why tonight hitting five homeruns.
– Jason Berken threw a scoreless 7th inning but came back out for the 8th and gave up back to back homeruns, the first one a two run shot. He wasn’t as sharp as he has been but in most cases I doubt he would’ve came back out for another inning. Clay Rapada only recorded one out before giving up a hit and two walks to load the bases. Josh Rupe tried to stop the damage there but gave up a grand slam to Alex Rodriguez. He finally did get that out but gave up another homerun, a two run shot by Brett Gardner, in the 9th.
– The O’s only runs came on Adam Jones’ opposite field three run homer in the bottom of the 7th. At the time it cut the Yankees lead in half, to 6-3. It was a great at bat, working the count a bit before going with the pitch with power. Nick Markakis walked and Derrek Lee hit one of his two singles to set it up.
– Markakis, Brian Roberts, and Robert Andino each singled in the game. Mark Reynolds walked but is mired in an 0-20 slump at the moment. We need him to get going soon. He has legitimate 40 homerun power but we’ve barely seen a glimpse of that as an Oriole.

Player of the game: Adam Jones – 1-4, 3 Run HR (4) (.224 AVG)

The Orioles will try to split the rain shortened two game series tomorrow afternoon. Jake Arrieta (2-1, 5.06) will try to pitch at least as well as his last game against the Yankees in New York. He’ll be countered by Freddy Garcia (1-0, 1.29). I think we’re going to put up a good number of runs tomorrow, hopefully its enough.
