Guthrie’s Luck Continues In 6-2 Loss

W – Mark Buehrle (2-3)     L – Jeremy Guthrie (1-4)     SV – Sergio Santos (3)

– The Orioles had 11 hits in last night’s game but were held scoreless until the 9th inning when the score was 6-0. It seemed like every inning we had two runners on base but failed to get them in every time. Derrek Lee hit a two run homer after Nick Markakis got hit by a pitch for our only runs. Lee had his best game yet with two singles and a walk to go along with his homerun. Markakis also had a pair of singles in the game.
– Adam Jones also had a good game with a double, two singles, and a stolen base. Vladimir Guerrero singled twice and Mark Reynolds doubled. Matt Wieters walked twice, Luke Scott and Robert Andino each walked once. We just couldn’t get any clutch hits with runners in scoring position.
– It was a typical day for Jeremy Guthrie, he pitched good but didn’t get any run support. He went 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts, leaving his ERA at 3.00 despite a 1-4 record. If he keeps pitching like this he’ll get his share of wins.
– The biggest concern has to be the bullpen. Clay Rapada gave up a single in between two outs but Josh Rupe gave up Paul Konerko’s second homerun of the game as soon as he came in. He finished the inning but has to be on the chopping block. I’m pretty sure anyone in AAA could come up and perform as well as he is.
– We still won the series with three out of four but its disappointing when you feel like you should’ve won the series finale for a sweep. Hopefully the offense can get double digit hits every game. Most of them won’t leave us with only two runs.

Player of the game: Derrek Lee – 3-4, R, 2 RBI, BB, HR (2) (.248 AVG)

The road trip continues into Kansas City tonight. Brad Bergesen (0-3, 4.76) is looking for his first win of the season against another lefty, Jeff Francis (0-3, 5.03).
