O’s Falter In Kansas City 6-5

W – Tim Collins (2-1)     L – Jason Berken (0-2)

– Brad Bergesen battled to get through 5 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and a walk while striking out 2. He wasn’t at his best but he kept the O’s in the game and left with a 5-4 lead. The defense didn’t help him much. Cesar Izturis started at second base for Brian Roberts, who had a root canal, and booted an easy ground ball. The runner eventually came around to score. I’m not sure what Izturis’ value is with the way Robert Andino is playing. When JJ Hardy comes off the DL I would hope Izturis is let go.
– The bullpen continued to struggle as a whole. Jeremy Accardo gave up a solo homerun to tie the game. Mike Gonzalez and Koji Uehara each pitched a perfect inning, Gonzalez with one strikeout and Koji with two. Jason Berken gave us a scare pitching through a jam in the 9th inning to send the game into extra innings, but he lost the game in the 10th when he walked the lead off batter, gave up a single and then a sacrifice fly. It looks like in a perfect world he could use some time in the minors but not with the way the bullpen has been pitching.
– Luke Scott tied the game up at three in the top of the 4th inning when he hit his 6th homerun of the season, a three run shot. He also singled in the game.
– The Orioles took a temporary lead in the 6th on an RBI single by Adam Jones and a sacrifice fly from Matt Wieters. Jones had his second straight three hit game, this time all singles. He also walked and stole a base. Wieters singled in the game as well.
– Derrek Lee continues to climb out of his April hitting woes with two more singles last night. His average is now up to .255. Vladimir Guerrero achieved something we haven’t seen all season from him. A walk. He also singled. Izturis also singled in the game.

Player of the game: Adam Jones – 3-4, R, RBI, BB, SB (4) (.250 AVG)

Jake Arrieta (3-1, 5.01) will try to get things back on track and snap this two game losing streak against Kyle Davies (1-3, 7.98), who somehow keeps getting starts for the Royals.
