O’s Cloudy Against Rays, Lose 8-2

W – Jeremy Hellickson (3-2)     L – Jeremy Guthrie (1-5)

– Guthrie again didn’t get any run support but this time it didn’t matter as he pitched horribly. He was battered around for 7 runs on 10 hits and a walk over 5 innings, striking out 4. He gave up a pair of homeruns to earn his fifth loss of the season.
– Jeremy Accardo gave up another run in an inning of work. He looks very hittable out there. Mike Gonzalez, Jim Johnson, and Kevin Gregg each pitched scoreless innings just trying to stay fresh. We haven’t had many leads in the later innings for them to protect.
– One good thing about todays game was that our hitters walked 10 times. Unfortunately that only lead to two runs as we went 1-12 with runners in scoring position. Thats terrible. If you walked 10 times, you need to score at least five or six runs. Vladimir Guerrero, Matt Wieters, Mark Reynolds, and Robert Andino each walked twice. Luke Scott and Brian Roberts walked also.
– Nick Markakis had a good game with three singles and a sacrifice fly. The rest of the lineup only had two hits combined, a single by Adam Jones and a double by Jake Fox.
– This team looks very bad right now. If you take away the 6-1 start our record is 8-17. Its getting to the point where you can’t just say the hitters are slumping. This just might be what they are this year. Offense is down and ours is way down. We need to get JJ Hardy and Brian Matusz healthy and try to get some positive momentum going.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 3-4, 2 RBI (.234 AVG)

Its up to Brad Bergesen (0-3, 4.88) to avoid the sweep for the Orioles. Tampa Bay goes with Wade Davis (3-2, 2.77), another pitcher whos been on a roll lately.
