More Injury Moves

The Orioles have placed 1B Derrek Lee on the 15 day disabled list and 2B Brian Roberts on the 7 day concussion disabled list. LHP Troy Patton and RHP Chris Jakubauskas have been recalled from AAA Norfolk.

With everyone in the bullpen having pitched in last night’s game the Orioles couldn’t wait on Roberts and Lee to see if they could avoid the DL. Jakubauskas makes his second trip to the team. He had a 5.54 ERA with AAA Norfolk over 13 innings with 8 strikeouts and 6 walks. His stay will be temporary for sure with Alfredo Simon expected to be activated from the restricted list on Sunday and Brian Matusz returning next week. Patton might get a more extended stay but it will probably depend on how he pitches. He had a 2.60 ERA with Norfolk over 17.1 innings with 15 strikeouts and 5 walks. He had one start but had been working out of the bullpen since he had a minor injury early on. Roberts has had headaches since diving head first into first base on Monday in Boston. The Orioles are hoping that qualifies as concussion like symptoms so they can get him back as soon as possible. Lee is eligible to return on June 1st and it seems like he will since he was trying to convince the front office not to put him on the DL at all. This can’t help our recent offensive issues. Hopefully some hitters will step up in their absence.
