O’s Stomp KC 9-2

W – Jake Arrieta (6-2)     L – Luke Hochevar (3-5)

– Arrieta had a weird night. It seemed like something was bothering him all night yet he still had a quality start. He was missing up in the zone all night, his velocity was inconsistent, he kept grabbing the back of his leg and shaking his arm out. I’m hoping it was just the effects of a hot and humid night and not a precursor for an injury. He struck out 7 batters over his 6 innings while giving up two runs on a two run homer, 5 hits, and 3 walks so maybe its much ado about nothing. The thing that scares me is that he has bone chips that he decided not to have removed over the offseason.
– Jim Johnson pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Mike Gonzalez threw his first perfect inning in a while, striking out a batter. They were low leverage situations but it was good to have a clean outing from the bullpen for a change.
– The Orioles sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the 4th, putting eight runs on the board. The game was essentially over after that. Adam Jones led off with a double, Nick Markakis singled, and then Vladimir Guerrero grounded out to score a run. Matt Wieters walked, Luke Scott doubled in a run, Wieters scored on a wild pitch, and Mark Reynolds walked. JJ Hardy then singled in a run, Ryan Adams walked, Felix Pie singled in a run, as did Jones after that. The last run came on a throwing error that should’ve ended the inning.
– Reynolds hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning. Our only other hits were singles from Guerrero and Scott.

Player of the game: Adam Jones – 2-4, R, 2 RBI, double (10) (.297 AVG)

Its a getaway day this afternoon as the Orioles try to sweep the Royals. Jeremy Guthrie pitches for the O’s, Jeff Francis for Kansas City.
