Tatum Replaces Snyder

The Orioles have recalled C Craig Tatum from AAA Norfolk and sent 1B Brandon Snyder back down to AAA.

Tatum finally gives the Orioles a real back up catcher. No offense to Jake Fox who brings a nice power bat off the bench but he just isn’t good enough defensively to count on for more than an emergency situation. I thought he’d be fine going into the season but after actually watching him, I’m glad Tatum is here now. Fox can still get his at bats in more of a utility role and pinch hitting. Tatum will play once or twice a week and while he won’t hit anywhere near as much as Jake, he’ll be more reliable on pitch calling and blocking the plate. He might’ve started the year with the team but had a shoulder injury that he recently fully recovered from. He was hitting .200/.289/.246 with 3 doubles and 7 RBI for AAA Norfolk over 65 at bats before getting the call. Brandon Snyder can go back down and get every day at bats. He looked alright at the plate but could use more work defensively. Luke Scott will get a chance to play alot of first base until Derrek Lee gets back.
