O’s Lose In Oakland 6-2

W – Brad Ziegler (1-0)     L – Alfredo Simon (1-1)

– The Orioles only real chance in this game came in the top of the 2nd inning. We loaded the bases with singles from Vladimir Guerrero and Matt Wieters and a Nolan Reimold walk. Mark Reynolds walked to score a run and we still had the bases loaded and nobody out. JJ Hardy struck out Jake Fox hit into a double play to end the inning. Gio Gonzalez had great stuff and it seemed like if we didn’t get to him then we wouldn’t get to him ever. And that turned out to be true.
– We scored on a throwing error in the 5th to tie the game but the bullpen gave the lead right back. We only had six singles in the game (Wieters two, Robert Andino, Nick Markakis, Guerrero, and Hardy each one.). Reynolds walked twice. Markakis and Fox each walked once. The team was 0-7 with runners in scoring position.
– Chris Tillman continued to throw way too many pitches yet find ways to get out of jams and keep the damage to a minimum. This time out he was only able to go 4.1 innings but he only allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. He left the game with the bases loaded and one out but Alfredo Simon came in got out of it unscathed. Unfortunately the A’s got to Simon the next inning for three runs. Mike Gonzalez threw gas on the fire, giving up a solo homerun over his 1.2 innings.

Player of the game: Matt Wieters – 2-4 (.272 AVG)

Brad Bergesen gets one last chance to keep his spot in the rotation tonight while Josh Outman tries to keep the Orioles off the board.
