O’s Lose Series to Jays 7-4

W – Jo-Jo Reyes (2-4)     L – Jeremy Guthrie (2-8)

– Guthrie can’t complain about lack of run support today. He just didn’t have it, giving up a run in every inning he pitched in except for the 2nd. Two homeruns, three walks, and nine hits resulted in six runs for the Blue Jays over five innings. He struck out three batters. I’m hoping he isn’t going through what Kevin Millwood appeared to last season, letting his losing record get in his head. His value is still high around the league and I think it would be a good idea for the Orioles to shop him around before the trade deadline this season. Don’t trade him unless you get a good deal though.
– Alfredo Simon pitched three innings, giving up a solo homerun in the process. He struck out three batters. Mike Gonzalez was perfect in the top of the 9th. I’d rather have Mark Hendrickson, who has an ERA under three for AAA Norfolk, up here than Gonzalez if hes only going to be trusted in blow outs.
– The Orioles took an early 2-1 lead in the 1st inning when Vladimir Guerrero hit a ground rule double after Robert Andino and Adam Jones singled to score one run. Jones came in on Derrek Lee’s RBI ground out. Nick Markakis hit a sacrifice fly in the 5th and Mark Reynolds hit a solo homerun in the 9th for the other runs.
– Andino also doubled and Guerrero also walked. Craig Tatum singled and walked. JJ Hardy, Nolan Reimold, and Matt Wieters walked in the game. The offense only had three hits after the first inning. Not good enough against a mediocre lefty.

Player of the game – Robert Andino – 2-5, R, double (4) (.262 AVG)

The Athletics come into town tomorrow night after sweeping the Orioles in Oakland. Another lefty, Gio Gonzalez (5-3, 2.49), pitches game one against Brian Matusz (0-0, 1.59).
