O’s Stumble In Extras 7-5

W – Juan Cruz (4-0)     L – Jeremy Accardo (3-2)     SV – Kyle Farnsworth (14)

– The offense did a great job of battling back all night against David Price and the Rays bullpen. They just couldn’t put anything together after the 8th. The Orioles got two runs in the bottom of the 5th on a solo homerun by Mark Reynolds and an RBI double from Adam Jones. In the 6th Reynolds hit another homerun, a two run shot to dead center field on a 3-0 fastball. Matt Wieters set it up with one of his three hits. He had a double and two singles.
– In the 8th the Orioles loaded the bases with two outs and Brandon Snyder walked to force in a run. Snyder also singled in the game but couldn’t handle some plays at first base that Derrek Lee has shown capable of. Robert Andino had a crucial error that brought in an unearned run and Felix Pie missed a tough catch in the 9th that could’ve changed things. Nick Markakis singled twice in the game to continue his resurgence. JJ Hardy and Luke Scott singled, Andino and Nolan Reimold walked.
– Jeremy Guthrie still wasn’t very sharp in this game but he was able to record a quality start and left with a chance to win for a brief time. It might be a stretch but I wonder if that game a while back when the O’s ran out of pitchers and Guthrie had to get warmed up has anything to do with his recent struggles. He gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts over six innings.
– Jim Johnson allowed the unearned run from Andino’s error over two innings. Kevin Gregg blew the save giving up a run in the 9th. Luckily he was able to stop the damage there. Unfortunately it didn’t matter because after Koji Uehara’s scoreless 10th, Jeremy Accardo gave up two runs in the 11th. He got a little unlucky with a ball that skidded on the chalk down the first base line for a double and then a bloop broken bat single to score a run. Tough loss for a game we had plenty of chances to win.

Player of the game: Mark Reynolds – 2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 HR (12) (.205 AVG)

Its the rubber game tomorrow. Brian Matusz (1-0, 2.45) will try to make it past the 6th inning for the first time while Wade Davis (4-5, 4.71) tries to contain Mark Reynolds and the Orioles offense.
