O’s Win Fourth Straight With 7-0 Shutout

W – Jake Arrieta (8-3)     L – Jeremy Hellickson (7-4)

– Last nights game couldn’t have gone much better. Looks like we found our leadoff hitter with Brian Roberts out. JJ Hardy hit his second lead off homerun in as many chances. He also got on base everytime up to the plate with a single, two walks, and a hit by pitch as well. Nick Markakis got his first extra base hit in 89 at bats, almost a month, when he hit a grand slam in the 2nd inning. He jumped on the first pitch hanging curve ball from Hellickson and lined it over the scoreboard in right. He later doubled in two runs to end a much shorter streak without an extra base hit. Hopefully this is a turning point for his season and he can get back to being Nick Markakis.
– Robert Andino doubled twice from the bottom of the lineup. Adam Jones singled twice. Mark Reynolds hit his 13th double of the season, continuing his offensive resurgence. Vladimir Guerrero and Felix Pie each singled.
– Another bright spot was Jake Arrieta’s outing. He kept the Rays scoreless over seven innings. He didn’t allow a hit until the 6th inning and he held them to two overall with three walks and four strikeouts. I like what he does when he gets an early lead, going right after the hitters. It seems to calm him down to have some room for error.
– Koji Uehara threw another scoreless inning, striking out a batter. He threw 10 of 11 pitches for strikes. Hes been amazing lately. Even Mike Gonzalez threw a scoreless inning last night, although he did walk two batters.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 2-5, R, 6 RBI, double (5), HR (5) (.241 AVG)

The Orioles can get back to .500 tonight if they avoid the rain and beat David Price (7-5, 3.35). Jeremy Guthrie (2-8, 3.71) looks to bounce back from his recent struggles.
