Orioles 7, Nationals 4

W – Chris Jakubauskas (2-0)     L – Tom Gorzelanny (2-5)

– Jakubauskas was able to give us another decent start in what I’d imagine could be his last for a while. He got through five innings with the Orioles leading. He gave up three runs on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. He also had a pair of singles in the game. Orioles pitchers so far have held their own at the plate in interleague play. I think Brad Bergesen might take Jakubauskas’ place in the rotation in the next round.
– Jim Johnson pitched two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Hes been awesome this year. So has Koji Uehara who pitched the last two innings, allowing a solo homerun. He also struck out a batter.
– The offense had a ton of hits against the Nationals but finally got enough runs to go with them. We scored throughout the entire game. A run here, two runs there. JJ Hardy and Mark Reynolds each hit solo homeruns. Craig Tatum hit an RBI single and grounded into a double play which scored a run. He later hit a sacrifice fly. Derrek Lee had an RBI double and Adam Jones an RBI single.
– Hardy also had a double and a walk. Reynolds doubled and singled. Lee, Nick Markakis, Nolan Reimold, and Felix Pie each singled. Reimold and Pie had stolen bases. It was a well rounded victory with a stop gap pitcher starting the game.

Player of the game: Mark Reynolds – 3-4, 2 R, RBI, double (14), HR (13) (.217 AVG)

Jake Arrieta (8-4, 4.43) and the Orioles travel to Pittsburgh to continue interleague play. Charlie Morton (7-3, 3.21) pitches for the Pirates.
