Rookies Error Leads to 5-4 Loss

W – Kevin Correia (9-6)     L – Zach Britton (6-5)     SV – Joel Hanrahan (20)

– Well it was a memorable major league debut for Blake Davis. Unfortunately for him and the Orioles it wasn’t in a good way. He hit a couple balls solidly but ended up 0-4 with a strikeout. He also was the reason we lost the game in the field. With runners on second and third with two outs and the Orioles leading 4-3 Josh Harrison hit a routine ground ball right at Adams but it went right through his legs to score the tying and go ahead runs. Britton is saddled with the loss after giving up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He gave up two runs in the 1st inning but pitched very well after that. He also had a pair of singles in the game and is now hitting .600 for the season. Jim Johnson and Koji Uehara each pitched a scoreless inning, Koji striking out the side.
– The Orioles scored two runs in each of the 3rd and 4th innings. In the 3rd Britton and JJ Hardy hit back to back singles to start the inning. A single by Nick Markakis and an RBI ground out from Adam Jones brought them in to score. Luke Scott and Mark Reynolds each singled to lead off the 4th and advanced to third and second respectively on a deep fly ball from Davis. Hardy grounded a double down the left field line to score them both. Markakis ended up with three hits, another single and a double. Reynolds also doubled, his average is up to .231 now. Matt Wieters walked.
– The O’s finish the nine game road trip 3-6 and are now tied for their worst record at six games under .500. The bad part is we just finished up the easy part of our schedule and now have a stretch of seven series against teams with winning records. Things could get ugly over the next month but with the streaky nature of this team I wouldn’t be shocked if we put together a winning record either. This is a very frustrating team to watch. We’re really missing Brian Roberts at this point and theres no telling when he’ll be able to return.

Player of the game: JJ Hardy – 2-5, R, 2 RBI, double (12) (.306 AVG)

The Orioles are off tomorrow but then Chris Jakubauskas (2-0, 5.10) welcomes the Cincinnati Reds and Edinson Volquez (4-3, 5.61) into town as the team gets back to Baltimore.
