O’s Take Series With 7-5 Win

W – Jeremy Guthrie (3-9)     L – Homer Bailey (3-2)     SV – Kevin Gregg (14)

– The Oriole bats are starting to show off the power that we thought they were capable of when the season started. Friday night’s hero, Derrek Lee, got it started in the 4th inning with a three run homer after Adam Jones and Vladimir Guerrero hit back to back singles to start the inning. Mark Reynolds hit a solo homerun two batters later. He also walked in the game. Jones also doubled.
– Nick Markakis continued his recent tear with three more hits, two of them RBI singles. He also stole his sixth base of the year. Our last run came on Luke Scott’s solo homerun. He hit one out on a 100+ mph fastball from Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman. Blake Davis had another good day at the plate in his third career game. He had a pair of singles and a walk. JJ Hardy and Craig Tatum each walked as well.
– Jeremy Guthrie didn’t have his best game yet he got a rare win. The home plate ump had a very tight strike zone, especially for Oriole pitchers it seemed. Guthrie walked four while giving up four runs and six hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out five batters. Clay Rapada came in for one batter with runners on first and second but walked him to load the bases before being replaced by Jim Johnson. Johnson proceeded to walk in two runs on some questionable calls. The runs were charged to Guthrie and Johnson got out of the inning, getting the next batter to ground out. He also pitched a scoreless 7th. Koji Uehara held the lead with a scoreless 8th and Kevin Gregg closed it out in the 9th, allowing a solo homerun in the process.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 3-5, 2 RBI, SB (6) (.277 AVG)

Another day off today before the Cardinals play their first ever game/series in Baltimore. Kyle Lohse (7-4, 2.91) gets the honor in game one against Zach Britton (6-5, 3.19).
