O’s Pick Up Where They Left Off, Lose 8-4

W – Justin Masterson (8-6)     L – Jeremy Guthrie (3-13)

– I guess the all-star break didn’t do the Orioles any good. The Indians jumped on Guthrie for three runs in the first inning on a solo homerun and then a two run shot. Overall he gave up six runs over five innings on five hits and four walks and two strikeouts. He didn’t do much for his trade value and hes now on pace for 20 losses. Mark Hendrickson gave up two runs in less than an inning. Jason Berken got the final out of the 6th and pitched a scoreless 7th, striking out three batters. Mike Gonzalez threw a perfect 8th and Kevin Gregg a scoreless 9th.
– The O’s scored two runs in the bottom of the 3rd on a Nick Markakis single to score Blake Davis and Craig Tatum who walked and singled respectively. Davis would later hit an RBI single in the 6th. Derrek Lee hit an RBI double in that same inning. Tatum had two singles. Felix Pie, JJ Hardy, and Matt Wieters each doubled.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 1-3, 2 RBI, BB (.292 AVG)

Jake Arrieta (9-6, 4.90) will try to break the eight game losing streak tonight against Josh Tomlin (10-4, 3.81).
