More Roster Moves

The Orioles have sent RHP Mitch Atkins to AAA Norfolk and placed RHP Alfredo Simon on the bereavement list. RHP Mark Worrell and 3B Josh Bell have been recalled from Norfolk.

Atkins just wasn’t getting it done, only lasting an inning plus and three innings in his last two starts. He started off with a nice game but the success didn’t translate over multiple outings. He had an 8.44 ERA over 10.2 innings with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. With the way the rotation has been performing he might get another chance if he goes down to Norfolk and gets back on track. Simon had to fly back to the Dominican Republic for more court proceedings. Hes expected to be back after only one day but you never know if there will be a hold up on these things. Worrell has pitched very well as the Tides closer, making the AAA all-star game. He had a 2.95 ERA with 12 saves, 30 strikeouts, and 10 walks over 36.2 innings before his call up. He won’t be here long unless Simon’s absence is longer than expected so hopefully he gets into a game before being sent back down. Bell comes up to help the bench. He hasn’t been great this year, he has a ton of errors, but hes hitting for some power. He was hitting .254/.308/.437 with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 16 homeruns, 47 RBI, and 4 stolen bases. Its sad to think how far Bell’s prospect status has fallen since last year. I still say he needs to give up switch hitting with his struggles against left handed pitching.
