Early Lead Turns Into 15-10 Loss

W – Dan Wheeler (2-1)     L – Mike Gonzalez (1-2)

– The offense jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Derrek Lee hit a two run triple in the bottom of the 1st inning. It looked like a routine fly ball but kept carrying until hitting off the top of the wall. We fell behind 6-2 but came back with five runs in the bottom of the 5th. JJ Hardy hit a two run homer, Adam Jones a solo homerun, and Nolan Reimold hit a two run double. Hardy hit an RBI single in the 8th and Nick Markakis had a two run single but the game was already way out of hand at that point. Jones and Lee added singles. Lee also walked. Matt Wieters had a pair of singles, Robert Andino singled and walked, Josh Bell had a pinch hit single, and Mark Reynolds walked.
– Brad Bergesen finally made his way back into the starting rotation but things didn’t go exactly as he planned I’m sure. He started off good but unraveled after the first two innings. An error from Derrek Lee didn’t help but in the end he gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts. At least he didn’t walk anybody. Troy Patton pitched a scoreless 6th but left with two runners on in the 7th. Jason Berken let one of the runs score but Mike Gonzalez got out of the inning with the score tied at seven. Gonzo couldn’t do the same in the 8th giving up a single and two walks before being removed. Mark Worrell made his Oriole debut but it only lasted three batters – a two run double, walk, and a two run single. Chris Jakubauskas was the next pitcher up and he gave up four more runs before the inning ended. He did manage to pitch a clean 9th.

Player of the game: JJ Hardy – 2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR (14) (.281 AVG)

Jeremy Guthrie (3-13, 4.45) has an important start tonight with teams showing alot of interest in acquiring. He needs a good outing against the Red Sox and Kyle Weiland (0-0, 13.50).
