Two Hits In 4-0 Loss

W – Andrew Miller (4-1)     L – Jake Arrieta (9-7)

– Arrieta got the loss but he pitched pretty good. He was able to get through seven innings which he hasn’t done in a while. And while he gave up three runs on nine hits, he didn’t walk a batter for only the second time in his career and struck out four. Thats a good line against a team like the Red Sox. If the Orioles can get some consistent starting pitching, making it through six innings or more, we’ll win our fair share of games. Two games in a row doesn’t mean thats going to happen but its a start. Alfredo Simon also pitched very well in his last start, Brian Matusz had a great outing in AAA and could be back soon, and Zach Britton should be back this time next week.
– The offense blew their chance in the 2nd inning with the bases loaded and only one out. Craig Tatum grounded into a double play to end the threat. We didn’t get our first hit until the 5th inning when Tatum singled up the middle. Derrek Lee had the only other hit with a single of his own. Adam Jones and Mark Reynolds each walked twice. Nolan Reimold and Robert Andino also walked.

Player of the game: Jake Arrieta – 7 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, L (9-7) (5.02 ERA)

Tomorrow is an off day before the Angels come into town for a three game series. Alfredo Simon (2-2, 4.36) is back from the DR and will try to build upon his last start against Ervin Santana (4-8, 3.84).
