Six Late Runs Seals 9-3 Loss

W – Tyler Chatwood (6-6)     L – Jeremy Guthrie (4-14)

– Guthrie wasn’t at his best but he didn’t do anything to hurt his trade value. I have to believe that the heat was a factor, but both sides have to deal with it. He was still able to give us a solid start despite walking four batters and only striking out one over seven innings. He gave up three runs on six hits. Based on media reports it seems that the Detroit Tigers and St.Louis Cardinals are the most interested in Guthrie and if the O’s can get some good value I think he’ll go before the deadline.
– It wasn’t until the 8th inning that things got out of hand. Mark Worrell was good in his last two appearances but isn’t long for the majors with his inconsistency. He was lit up for five runs on four hits (two homeruns) and a walk while only able to get two outs. Troy Patton came in to finish the inning. Chris Jakubauskas gave up a run in the 9th.
– Adam Jones hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 5th to bring us within one run at the time. Hes on a bit of a power surge right now. That was his 18th homerun of the season, his career high is 19. He also singled and stole second base earlier in the game. Nick Markakis hit a solo homerun in the 9th inning for our other run. He also singled and doubled in the game. The only other hits were singles by Derrek Lee and Josh Bell.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 3-4, 2 R, RBI, double (14), HR (10) (.291 AVG)

Time for another road trip after an off day tomorrow. First stop is across the border in Toronto. Jake Arrieta (9-7, 5.02) and Brandon Morrow (7-4, 4.34) pitch in game one.
