O’s Take Out Anger On Jays, Win 12-4

W – Jake Arrieta (10-7)     L – Brandon Morrow (7-5)

– It wasn’t pretty but Arreta finally reached double digits in the win column. He gave up a pair of homeruns, hit Jose Bautista in the head, and was hit by a ground ball up the middle but was able to make it through five innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Its been a struggle for him lately. He just isn’t commanding the ball. His command wasn’t great earlier in the year either but still better than it is now. The stuff is still there but he needs to continue making adjustments. Jason Berken pitched three scoreless innings while the O’s lead increased. Mark Hendrickson tossed a perfect 9th.
– The offense was pounding the ball with a season high eight extra base hits. JJ Hardy had two homeruns and just missed a third in what resulted in a deep sacrifice fly. Derrek Lee drove in five runs with two singles, a double, and a two run homer. Nolan Reimold doubled and homered. Mark Reynolds doubled and walked. Robert Andino singled and doubled. Adam Jones had a pair of singles and a stolen base. Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters each singled and walked. And last and maybe least Vladimir Guerrero singled in his first game back from the disabled list. We knew the offense had this kind of potential, its a shame we haven’t seen this kind of output more often.

Player of the game: Derrek Lee – 4-5, 2 R, 5 RBI, double (14), HR (11) (.246 AVG)

Alfredo Simon (2-3, 4.08) looks to keep it rolling in game two of the series tonight. The Blue Jays have their ace on the mound, Ricky Romero (7-9, 3.27), on a day when they’ve been wheeling a dealing.
