One Bad Inning Results In 4-2 Loss

W – Freddy Garcia (10-7)     L – Jake Arrieta (10-8)     SV – Mariano Rivera (27)

– Arrieta’s season has been an interesting journey, although not particularly a good one. It continued on Sunday as he could barely make it through the 5th inning, throwing 106 pitches to do it. He walked six batters while striking out four. He gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits. All four runs came in the 4th inning and a JJ Hardy error got the ball rolling. Arrieta hasn’t been very good for a while now after getting off to such a good start. Theres still two months left of the season and I’d like to see some improvement from him and all the other young starters, much like the end of last season. Jim Johnson pitched two scoreless innings striking out three batters and Kevin Gregg struck out the side in the 8th.
– The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd when Robert Andino walked, stole second and third, and came home on an Adam Jones single. Andino would later single and steal another base. Jones would also later single and steal a base and would come around to score on Vladimir Guerrero’s RBI single. Our only other hits were singles by Nick Markakis and Felix Pie. Markakis also walked. Chris Davis went 0-4 with a strikeout in his Oriole debut.

Player of the game: Adam Jones – 2-4, R, RBI, SB (10) (.294 AVG)

The O’s were off Monday and will start a three game series in Kansas City tonight. Alfredo Simon (2-4, 4.23) and former Oriole Bruce Chen (5-4, 4.29) will start game one.
